The latest in our A to Z of Gambling series sees us take a look at the letter M. Well take a look at a betting system, a bizarre poker hand nickname and type of bet, commonly found in sports betting.
M is for Martingale The Martingale system is a type of betting strategy that sees the gambler doubling his or her stake after each loss, in order to recover losses and bank a small overall profit. The origins of Martingale date back to 18th century France, supposedly involving betting on the flip of a coin.
These days, Martingale is more associated with roulette betting, usually on one of the fifty fifty decisions, such as Red / Black or Odd / Even.

I was very excited when I heard about TCOOP. Turbos are some of my favorite tournaments to play. There is a lot of action and decision-making involved. They also don’t take all day, which I find very pleasant. The cool thing about a turbo tournament series is also that you get to play certain games in a turbo format. I have never played Pot-Limit Omaha rebuy turbo or a High Roller turbo, but I can’t wait to see how it pans out.

Usually when playing turbos I try to play pretty tight at the start.

The European Poker Tour main event heads to the final table tomorrow with Martin Finger of Germany holding just a two big blind lead over nearest rival Nicolas Levi with eight players remaining.
Ironically, as play entered its ninth hour, Finger seemed like the player most in need of a night off.
The German was on a flyer. A series of suspect decisions cost him a large chunk of his stack, being at the mercy of Levi and Ari Engel, not to mention headline writers looking for a play on words to Finger. The last hand though, eliminating Patrick Renkers with Ace-King against Queens, brought the colour and confidence back to his face.
