Basketball is one of the most popular sports in the world. As an indoor sport it can be practiced all year round so basketball easily became the top sport in schools all over the world. Basketball is among the few sports that first appeared in North America but now children and youngsters from all five continents play it at school or in their free time. Like in any other popular sport, in basketball we can easily find legendary players that fans really admire and children dream to become like them.

Michael Jordan is no doubt one of the legendary players of basketball. Now an active business man and owner of Charlotte Bobcats, Jordan had an outstanding career from 1984 to 2003 as player of Chicago Bulls and Washington Wizards. Michael won 6 championships, 5 Most Valuable Player awards, and he was ten times NBA scoring champion.

Earvin “Magic” Johnson is another great name in basketball history. He played his entire professional career at Los Angeles Lakers (from 1979 to 1996). Magic Johnson won 5 championship titles, three NBA Most Valuable Player awards and still is the all-time leader in assists per game, with an average of 11.2.

Wilt Chamberlain played for Harlem Globetrotters in 1958 and one year later started his NBA career which ended in 1973. He set numerous records and he is still the only NBA player in history to score 100 points in a single game and average more than 40 and 50 points in a season.

One of the recent basketball stars that will certainly go down in history as an exceptional center player is Shaquille O’Neal. In his professional 19-year career that ended in 2011, O’Neal  4 NBA championships, won the NBA Rookie of the Year award for the 1992-1993 season and received one NBA Most Valuable Player award.
